When my son first started at Esh Winning Primary School, he would come back every day with a big smile on his face. Seeing him go from worrying about starting school to looking forward to the next day, I very much appreciated the supportive, playful and creative atmosphere the school staff provided for him. Becoming a parent governor therefore seemed a natural next step to give back and support the staff in what they’re already doing.
What I’m bringing to the role of Governor is an interest and expertise in Child Mental Health. After having spent almost a decade in Psychological research in combination with qualifying as a therapist for children, I’m very aware of the role that a child’s wellbeing plays within their learning journey especially in times of high stress such as a global pandemic. I feel in particular passionate about coming in as a parent to the Board of Governors as home life often provides important support to the child’s learning. In combination with my experience as school counsellor in different school settings across the county, which has given me an invaluable insight into the mental health support within education, I believe that I can bring in a valuable point of view to the board of governors.
