I was asked to be a school governor some years ago in the role of ‘Community link governor’.
I was secretary and youth leader of the community association at the time of being asked and was delighted to be offered the role as we organised mutual events between the school and the centre with the aim being, all benefit.
The role of the community link governor meant that I could represent the community and promote the services of the community association to the school, as we played an important part in providing youth clubs, children’s discos, parties and fund raising events for the children who attended our school as well as the other schools in the village.
This created a strong bond between the two parties of which was shared until the centre closed.
I like to feel that I still have the community at the centre of my being a governor as many of the children who attended our centre have now grown up and indeed their children are now attending our school
