Impact (What is the effect?)
The impact of following this programme will be that the standards of attainment across the school will meet or exceed those which are expected of our children nationally. We continuously assess the implementation and impact of our PSHE curriculum in order to achieve the highest outcomes possible across all year groups and ensure we provide the support that is necessary for all children to achieve. Through our PSHE curriculum, we believe we can enhance children’s education and help them to become caring, respectful, responsible and confident individuals and citizens.
So how can we achieve this?
In order to be confident in the impact of PSHE, senior leaders and PSHE leader (Miss Burns and Mrs Powell) will monitor the effectiveness of the scheme through observations, book reviews and through discussions with pupils, staff, parents and stake holders.
Assessment is a major contributor in evidencing the impact and this is tracked by the class teacher to ensure that pupils are building on their skills and knowledge over time. It can then show progression. Staff carry out an initial baseline assessment against the unit’s learning intention, this is then reviewed throughout each of the 6 lessons and a final judgement is made. Activities are included in each lesson to give the children the opportunity to self-assess using simple pictorial resources designed in a child-friendly, age-appropriate manner. It also allows children of 6 and over the opportunity to identify areas for self-improvement. Our curriculum will build on the knowledge pupils have previously acquired, including in other subjects, with regular feedback given to the children.
